FAQs
-
● What is the CEC?
- The Counseling Enriched Classroom (CEC) is a structured and nurturing learning environment for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that encourages academic achievement and improved social emotional wellness. There are Counseling Enriched Classrooms on each campus in the Tamalpais Union High School District.
-
● How does a student get to be in the CEC?
- Placement in a district CEC program is determined by IEP team decision. Only students who are in special education may be enrolled in the CEC.
-
● How is the Tamiscal CEC different from other CEC programs?
- The Tamiscal CEC is unique in that it is located on a small, alternative high school campus. Many students feel comfortable in our program due to the small size and calm atmosphere of Tamiscal High School. The therapeutic milieu of the CEC program at Tamiscal offers a high level of social emotional support. Some students in our program choose to stay within the CEC classroom for their full schedule due to their comfort level and individual needs, and are still able to maintain progress towards diploma and earn A-G credits to remain college eligible by taking their courses on Edgenuity. The CEC classroom is also open during lunch time for students who feel more comfortable staying in during lunch.
-
● What social emotional support is offered?
-
○ All students in the CEC receive weekly individual and group counseling with the School Psychologist.
-
○ Additionally, the School Psychologist engages in frequent consultation with caregivers and outside providers.
-
○ The CEC is considered a therapeutic milieu, meaning our classroom is thoughtfully structured and developed to be a safe and supportive environment to help meet our students’ social emotional needs.
- ○ The School Psychologist works full time in the CEC classroom and is available as needed outside of appointment times as well.
-
-
● Are all classes completed online? Does my student have access to more traditional group classroom settings?
-
○ Most students take a mix of online classes and in-person group classes.
-
○ Online classes are completed in the CEC classroom using Edgenuity, with
support from the classroom teacher, paraeducators, and general education
teachers.
-
○ Group classes available to CEC students include:

-
-

-
